The White Walker: A Game of Thrones Cocktail

A variation of a White Russian with ice cubes resembling the ice-blue, bone-chilling eyes of the undead? I’ll drink to that. This White Walker Game of Thrones cocktail is a classic with an unexpected GoT twist, thanks to Johnnie Walker’s limited edition White Walker Scotch.

There’s nothing like the pit-in-the-stomach dread we have as viewers, waiting for those eyes to change to signal the transformation to White Walker. I was curious if I could convey that feeling in a White Walker Game of Thrones cocktail, and it even gets more pronounced as the drink disappears. Interestingly enough, the dye seemed to collect in the middle of the cube, forming an iris. I’d love to try it with a spherical mold. That would be the coolest, am I right?!

Fake fur and a cocktail

When I heard that Johnnie Walker came out with a Game of Thrones-inspired Scotch, I had to try it. It’s a mellow, blended Scotch with toasty notes of vanilla, ideal for mixing in a cocktail such as this variation of a White Russian, sipping on the rocks or straight from the freezer, as Johnnie Walker recommends. The bottle, when frozen, reveals a chilling sight (see what I did there?).

And in case you’re not a Scotch drinker on the reg (as I confess to wholeheartedly be), don’t worry, it’s not at all too overpowering in this cocktail. It provides a complexity of flavor that vodka just doesn’t possess. If you’d like to make your own coffee liqueur, try this recipe for delicious homemade Kahlua.

If you’re as GoT obsessed as I am, check out the rest of the Game of Thrones cocktail series: The Lioness (Cersei Lannister), The Little Hero (Jon Snow), Wildfire, and the Mother of Dragons (Danaerys).
